Loïc - French, Head Engineer, Wind Turbines
KLC : Hi Loïc, thank you for accepting this brief interview. You have been our student for a long time , it has been 2 years I think? How long have you been in China ?
Loïc : Hi I appreciate that I can be chosen as an interviewee. I have been in China for about 4 years and a half. I arrived in 2015.
KLC : Have you always lived in Shanghai during these 4 years ?
Loïc : Yes, always in Shanghai.
KLC : So what's your main responsibility in your company? Could you please briefly introduce your job?
Loïc : I am an engineer in wind turbines simulation. I am creating designs and simulations of wind turbines’ activities and work.
KLC : It's about clean energies.
Loïc : Yes exactly.
KLC : In your opinion, how is China performing in terms of clean energies ?
Loïc : China is doing quite good, it has wind and solar energy, a lot of companies and numerous projects. It is on a fairly good trend toward a cleaner environment.
KLC : I can feel your passion and motivation for your job. What do you think about the future and potential of China on this field ?
Loïc : I'm quite optimistic on this matter. I believe China will experience an interesting and fast development in this area.
KLC : So you will stay in this industry for a while ?
Loïc : Yes, I like this job and I don’t have any plan to change so far.
KLC : But you also mentioned that you are planning to have a break for intense Chinese studies, right?
Loïc : Yes, because my Chinese is not good enough. Although my level is ok, I can’t understand my Chinese colleagues during meetings and the same happens when I attend to conferences. Therefore I would like to take my Chinese to the next level before coming back to my current company.
KLC : What do you think of your current Chinese level ?
Loïc : I am not sure, I am preparing for the HSK 3 but I don't know when I will be ready. Probably in 2 or 3 months.
KLC : I'm quite impressed. You chose to slow down the rhythm of your carrer to jump into language learning. What do you cherish the most in life?
Loïc : Many things are important to me. I love learning: Chinese, music, etc. I am currently entering a new hobby : IoT, the Internet of Things. I really love studying this innovative and meaningful topic. I also like sports such as yoga and I am about to start scuba diving. In a word, the most important thing for me might be to keep learning.
KLC : I heard that you also have participated in several meditation activities. Why ? Isn’t it a bit boring ?
Loïc : Oh I love meditation. I will join a meditation session in July, in Thailand. I went to Nepal for a 10 days session before. I think it is an excellent opportunity to understand what you really want, to see into your own heart, and to know who you really are. I haven’t found the answer yet, but I would like to become a better person every day.
KLC : To find your life's direction.
Loïc : Yes that's true.
KLC : Talking about 'direction', what are your plans for your future in China ?
Loïc : I am not sure. My girlfriend is Chinese and will have to stay in China at least two more years because she is writing her thesis in medicine, which is a lot of work. After these 2 years, not sure; I may stay here or go for another country.
KLC : What do you usually do with your girlfriend here ?
Loïc : Well, we like to enjoy any kinds of foods, we go here and there to eat, and also cook together. We also like to go to the cinema. You can find plenty of fun things to do around here.
KLC : Ok, thanks a lot for your time. Wish you will pass the HSK 3 as soon as you wish and that you will become the person you want to be.
Loïc : You’re welcome, thank you !
